Trauma comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they are moments that we have etched immediately onto our hearts and can pinpoint the exact moment our life changed. Other times trauma is more subtle: little phrases, underlying emotions throughout our childhood that creates lasting effects on our self-esteem and our relationships with others.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
With EMDR we are able to activate the entire brain in order to process through tough or traumatic experiences and desensitize the level of reactivity that you are currently experiencing in your life. Through a series of eye movements or other right brain stimulation techniques we will target the different areas that you are struggling in and process through them systematically.
Utilizing play therapy is a great way to process trauma with our younger humans. We are able to help them communicate through their first language of play to get out the big emotions they may be experiencing about the hard thing in their world. There are several different ways to use play therapy: such as sand tray, actual games, using dolls or action figures, etc.
